Public Transport in Hamilton

Three years ago people made 1.7 million journeys on our buses. This year they will make 4.5 million trips. That is 2.8 million fewer journeys that will be made by car!

This makes a great contribution to reducing congestion and deferring the need to spend money on roads.

Enhancing Our Environment

We have continued to work with a range of people to restore native habitat and resources.

As a result 375 Tui were seen in the city last Summer, 50 Bellbirds were released to establish in the city, and Waiwhakareke is progressing well with increasing public support.

Claudelands Events Centre

We committed to the construction of Claudelands Events Centre which will bring over $15 million of new money into the economy each year.

The Verandah

Completion of the award winning Verandah has significantly increased the communities use and enjoyment of the Hamilton Lake Reserve.

Waikato River

We commissioned studies into River based tourism and the need for new hotel beds in the city.

Specific opportunities were identified and we are in discussions with commercial operators which will lead to real projects very soon.

Poets Corner

Council staff have been co-located with Police, Housing New Zealand, and Child Youth and Family and health services in Enderly.

A wide range of programmes for youth and other community members have been successfully offered leading to stronger local leadership, a reduction in gang activity and geatly reduced crime rates in the area.
